The new U.S. Embassy in Cotonou includes a 277 kilowatt (kW) solar power (photovoltaic (PV)) array, which is estimated to produce over 408,750 kW hours of green, clean, emissions-free power annually, enough to provide power for 38 average homes each year. The array’s 1032 panels are mounted on the shade structure covering the embassy’s parking lot. The system is calculated to pay for itself within 13 years of installation.
