In 2013, the newly constructed U.S. Embassy in Dakar, Senegal began producing 493,040 kWh per year using photovoltaic panels with a calculated payback of 6 years. The photovoltaic arrays, collectively rated at 250 kilowatts, are placed on the roof of the parking structure and the annex. The installation is estimated to produce enough to power 43 average homes for an entire year.
