In 2013, the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal became the Department of State’s seventh U.S. Diplomatic mission abroad to generate emissions-free power from photovoltaic panels. The missions used an existing structure, that had previously supported photovoltaic panels, to host the installation. The 30 kilowatt installation is estimated to produce 36,792 kilowatts per year; enough to power 3 average homes for an entire year.
